The nervous hiker

The hiker was making good pace. He felt he should be at the next pit stop before it got too dark. The rain had slowed things down. He too was to blame. Taking pictures of reflections of coloured trees on the water was fun, but it had cost him valuable time. Now he was an hour behind. A brown dog emerged from the bushes a good fifty yards away, downhill from him. It was tall and big for a dog. It crossed in a straight line across the trail and disappeared on the other side. The hiker waited for the owner to appear. No one was following the dog. But wait, the bushy tail had been drooping down. It was no dog, it was a wolf! The hiker slowed down to a stumble. He nervously stomped his feet. He waited. He started moving slowly again, moving his hands in the air and clapping every 5 seconds as loud as he could.
